EMERGING LENS CULTURAL FILM FESTIVAL

For this festival, I was responsible for the design of a variety of assets, including the website, general marketing/social graphics, and event programs. I’ve been contracted since 2017.

They requested a redesign of the film festival's website to elevate its functionality and visual appeal, while also prioritizing the user experience.

Redesign Timeline

Jan 2024 - April 2024

Problem Statement:

In the original design, users found it difficult to find certain types of information due to format/layout, too deeply nested menu options, or lack of mobile responsiveness.

  • Text sizing was inconsistent, and there was a lack of visual hierarchy

  • Photos varied in quality

  • The about section did not contain enough organizational information

  • The main navigation menu had many nested options, some of which were not intuitive to find

  • The content on the mobile site did not reflow effectively; content was cutoff o missing

Solution:

Through further research and user feedback, I identified areas for improvement and streamlined navigation, optimized layout, and integrated responsive design principles for seamless accessibility across devices.

The redesigned website now effectively showcases the festival's events and offerings, reflecting its brand identity and values while delivering a delightful experience for visitors.

  • Adding a calendar for the film nights and panel events

  • Giving event cards more detail, and allowing guests to reserve a spot

  • Establishing a consistent color palette

  • Combining menu options to be more readily available

  • Adding in a section for performers/their info

  • Formatting the text and images to be more consistent/readable

Project Role:

I was the sole designer and developer on this project, and I worked with The Emerging Lens Team to understand what they wanted changed to improve the website, and what they wanted to stay the same. The tools/resources used for this project are listed below:
